A Little Taste of Mexican Heaven
Over the last few years we’ve scouted dozens of Mexican restaurants around Ottawa to find that little piece of heaven we savoured during our trips down South - from Tulum, to the Mayan Riviera and our favourite - Isla Mujeres.
Some joints had great to mediocre tasting plates, but with wait-times lasting up to an hour for nachos, heading for dinner was becoming more of a chore than an enjoyable experience. After some extensive Facebook creeping, I came across Ola Cocina. A small joint in the heart of Beechwood, the restaurant had top ratings, and needless to say, we were far from disappointed. With a range of 15 tacos (and still counting), the best nachos (Ignacios) I have ever tasted (topped with delicious mango salsa), and even churro ice-cream sandwiches for desert, Ola Cocina keeps us coming back for more.
What’s so special about this joint? Tell you what, everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is made from scratch, from the corn tortillas to the wide selection of hot sauces. Every homemade item on the menu is carefully put together with multiple ingredients to spark your tastebuds.
And if lunch and dinner wasn’t enough, we decided to try the brunch. For a petite chick of 110 lbs, I don’t think they were expecting me to polish off the Hungry Señor, but I did and loved every bite. From the best french toast I’ve ever had, made with egg bread, to the pastry-sized banana stuffed pancakes, brunch took on a whole new delicious meaning. Ola Cocina is serious about their food, and man, without a doubt, this is the place to go.
I could rave about this restaurant for days, but when you taste a little piece of this Mexican restaurant, you’ll be hooked. Take a peek at their extravagant menu, and give them a like on their social media pages, they deserve it: http://olacocina.ca/menu/
